Your reading is personal. Here is how the app and this website handle information.

The short version

Krishna has no advertising, external analytics SDK, account system or marketing messages. Core reading and text search work offline. This page covers Krishna on iPhone, iPad and Mac, its Apple Watch companion and daily widgets where available, and this website.

Watch and daily widgets

Daily widgets share a bounded schedule of public teaching identifiers, your reading language and time zone with the app through an Apple App Group. A paired Apple Watch can receive the same schedule through WatchConnectivity. It covers up to 32 days and is replaced when the app refreshes it. Private notes, questions, location, credentials, reading history and personal context preferences are not included.

Watch chanting counts are stored separately in device-only Keychain records and do not sync to iPhone or Mac. Use Reset on the Watch to remove a selected count. The Watch companion does not request location or make weather or AI requests. Daily text is bundled when synchronization is unavailable. Widgets do not show private notes or chant counts. Their daily text is marked privacy sensitive for system lock-screen and always-on presentation. You choose whether to add widgets; Apple controls their refresh timing and delivery to a paired Watch.

Information on your device

Reading preferences, bookmarks and resume positions stay in local app storage. Personal notes, recent searches, limited Ask history, chanting counts and temple visit records use separate protected, device-only Keychain records. A note may contain your writing and an attached passage. Temple visits contain the chosen temple and date, not proof of your location. There is no automatic account sync.

Read marks and private insights

Read marks change only when you mark a verse or chapter. Scrolling does not mark a passage as read. Chant history can keep up to 365 dated count records. Optional time-in-app recording is off by default and measures foreground duration, not attention, devotion or completion. These records are not uploaded or used for recommendations. You can pause recording and delete the history in the app.

Backup and sharing

You may explicitly export supported notes, bookmarks and reading positions as an AES-GCM encrypted file. A separate recovery code is needed to restore it. The app cannot recover a lost code. Keep the code separate from the file. Copying the code is optional and uses a local-only clipboard item with a five-minute expiry. Preparation data is held in memory and its references are cleared when you leave or background the app; this is not a guarantee that the operating system immediately erases every memory copy.

The backup does not include credentials, permissions, chant history, visit history, usage insights, research, generated stories, read marks or all app preferences. Restore previews the file before merging. A Files provider you select may store or sync the encrypted file under its own policy. Sharing a reading or note sends the selected content to the destination you choose, only after your action.

Location, maps and weather

The app requests location after you choose a nearby or distance action. Approximate location is sufficient. Coordinates are used in memory to rank temples and request nearby Apple Maps results; the app does not save them. Weather requests concern the selected temple, not your current location. Public weather and attribution may be cached in memory for up to ten minutes. Apple may receive map requests when you open a map, before you choose to locate yourself. Directions open Apple Maps or Google Maps after your choice. These providers apply their own privacy practices.

Questions and optional story preparation

When available, Apple Foundation Models processes questions and supplied reading material on the device. Local retrieval remains available when the model is unavailable. There is no silent cloud fallback. Passage-specific questions do not include private note bodies and are not saved by that passage tool. General Ask can retain a bounded recent conversation locally until you clear it.

Optional on-device story preparation uses bundled material. Accepted generated stories and check results can be held in a separate protected record with a delete control. Generated retellings are not scripture or independently certified accounts. Kriva research and direct-provider story generation are disabled in the current public Release configuration. Development-only cloud paths are not a public feature; any public activation requires revised disclosures and explicit consent.

Chanting and reminders

The optional spoken chant guide outputs audio. It does not listen, record your voice, recognize repetitions or request microphone access. One optional daily reminder is a local notification, off by default. Permission is requested only when you enable it. No server push token or marketing subscription is created.

Information we do not request

The app does not ask for your name, email address, date of birth, gender, health information, contacts, photographs or advertising identifier. It does not infer personal traits from reading choices. If you contact support yourself, the information you choose to send is separate from app storage.

Deletion and your choices

Use the app’s controls to delete notes, clear Search and Ask memory, reset chanting counts, remove visits and clear optional usage history. Use these controls before uninstalling if you want protected records removed explicitly. iOS controls Keychain retention after uninstalling. Delete exported files and any copies separately in the Files provider you selected. Revoke location or notification permission in iPhone Settings at any time.

Shared reading

The app has no public profiles or targeted advertising. A caregiver should decide whether a child may visit optional websites or share material outside the app. External sites are not part of the curated reading experience.
